Spokane

Cynthia Lee “Cindy” Nelson, aged 69, peacefully departed from this world on February 9th, 2026, in Post Falls, Idaho, surrounded by the warmth of love and cherished memories. Born on November 9th, 1956, in Orange, California, she was the beloved daughter of Virgil Ross Hamilton and Alyce Lee (Parker), who have lovingly awaited her reunion beyond this life.

Cindy’s journey began in Spokane, Washington, where she spent her formative years immersed in the Lutheran faith. Though her practice varied, her devotion remained steadfast. A proud graduate of University High School in 1975, she furthered her education at Spokane Community College, earning an associate’s degree that opened doors to many diverse career paths. From construction to paralegal work, balloon sculpting to serving as a certified nursing assistant, Cindy embraced every opportunity with her signature enthusiasm and determination.

While Spokane was her home for most of her life, Cindy also spent a brief, beautiful chapter in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she welcomed her first son, Wayne. After returning to Spokane with her parents, she discovered the joy of motherhood again with the birth of her second son, Bryan. It was in 1983 that Cindy found her longtime partner, Vern Holzer, sharing a bond that would leave lasting memories. In 2013, she met her dear partner Nathan Powell, who, along with his children Austin and Alyssa, brought immense joy into her life until their paths intertwined in sorrow as they departed this life just weeks apart.

A lover of nature, Cindy cherished camping adventures and embraced the solace of reading and knitting. Her heart was most full when surrounded by her beloved animals and, above all, her family. She shared a particularly special bond with her sister Sheri, whose memory remains close to her heart, and her brother Virgil “Rusty.”

Cindy leaves behind a devoted family that includes her cherished sons, Wayne Nelson (Jesse) of Federal Way, Washington, and Bryan Nelson (Suimai) of Tacoma, Washington. She is also survived by her brother Virgil Hamilton (Leona), as well as her nieces Tabitha and Nicole Hamilton of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Amy Rice of Spokane, Washington. Additionally, her nephew Dale “DJ” Rice (Maricel), brother-in-law James “Jim” Gorden-Williston, North Dakota, niece Meggan Gorden of Williston, North Dakota, and granddaughter Halle Nelson of Spokane, Washington, carry forward her legacy.

As we celebrate Cindy’s remarkable life, we remember her as a beacon of love, resilience, and faith. Her spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
