David Frank Strasser, 80 of Bend, Oregon passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Friday, July 10, 2026.
David was born in South Bend, Indiana to Harry Frank Strasser and Veronica Anna Geopfrich Strasser on May 26, 1946. He spent his childhood in and around northern Indiana, attending Holy Family Catholic School in South Bend and St. Patrick Catholic School in Walkerton, with treasured summers spent at Grandpa Geopfrich’s at Long Lake just across the state line in Michigan. When the family picked up and moved across the country in their old Studebaker, David continued the Catholic tradition by attending and graduating from Bishop Amat High School in LaPuente, California, then going on to attend Loyola University of Los Angeles before capping off his education with a tour through Europe.
David then returned home and followed in his father’s footsteps, initially working for him and eventually owning several service stations in southern California. There he met Ivonne Victoria (Vicki) Weil, who became his loving wife on October 31, 1970 at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in LaPuente. They settled in Azusa, California where they were blessed with a daughter and a son, before following the Strasser clan north to Bend, Oregon in the summer of 1981. In Oregon, David initially joined his younger brother in an excavation business, but then went on to operate The Woodworks, a fine wood furniture store, due to his love of woodworking. He eventually went back to his roots, owning and operating Pilot Butte Shell (and then Exxon) where he became known as a respected Bend businessman until he retired in 2002.
In his retirement, David enjoyed woodworking and restoring old Fords with his father, visiting his grown children and grandchildren, road tripping around the US, and attending University of Notre Dame football games.
David was a staunch Catholic all his life and as a member of the Holy Redeemer Finance Committee led by Father Bob Simard, he became a founding member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Sunriver, Oregon, where he routinely led the rosary and was a vocal member of the Parish Council.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished grandson, Austin Harrison Strasser.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife of Bend, his son Harry (Tiffanie) of Coeur d’Alene, ID, his daughter Jennifer (Paul) Mester of Walkerton, IN, his brother, Donald (Julie) of Mill City, OR, his sisters Betty McMuldren of Bend and Myra (Mike) Huddleston of Powell Butte, OR, and his grandchildren Audrey and Ezekiel Strasser and Montana Mester.
A Catholic funeral for David will be held at noon on Monday, July 20 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Sunriver, Oregon.
