Edith Lorine Erickson Clegg, of Spokane, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the age of 96 and was surrounded by her family.
Edith was born in 1927 to Mandle and Amanda Gutches Erickson in Moscow, Idaho. She had 3 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 half-brothers and they grew up during the depression. She came from a very musical family and played the piano by ear. They would often play for dances at the local grange halls: her dad on the fiddle, Edith on the piano, and her sisters playing the drums, trombone and vocals. She also worked as an Usherette at the local movie theater.
After high school, she lived in Spokane and attended Kinman Business University. After graduating, she returned to Moscow and worked in the Bursar’s Office at the University of Idaho. It was there that she met her eternal companion, Joseph Louis Clegg. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 8, 1948. Upon his graduation from college in 1950, they made their home in Spokane, Washington, where she resided until her death.
She loved taking care of her family, church service, cooking, canning and family history work. She and her husband spent years doing name extraction work and indexing genealogical information. She received special recognition for her work and at the time of her death she had completed over 1,200,000 individual records.
She taught Relief Society, typed church bulletins and was the typist for the Stake Patriarch for many, many years.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Joseph T. and Maureen Clegg of Olympia, Washington; Christine and Michael Parker of Bountiful, Utah; Janine and Craig Turner of Prescott Valley, Arizona; Jared and Janet Clegg of Sammamish, Washington; Lorine and Craig Harris of Draper, Utah; and Matthew and Leeanne Clegg of Spokane Valley, Washington. Joe and Edith have 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, 1 grandchild-Wayne Parker; and two great-grandchildren-Shaylee Parker and Beckham Peterson.
