Elgin Darell Polk

August 14, 1947 — March 23, 2024

Post Falls

Darell was born on August 14, 1947. He went to be with Jesus on March 23, 2024, at the age of 76.

Darell was born in Lawrenceville, IL, to Howard Weslie Polk and Anna Starlene (Morris) Polk. Darell's father was born in Illinois and was an oil field worker and an Ordained Assembly of God minister. His mother was born in Missouri, and was a
homemaker.

Darell graduated in 1965, from Robinson High School, in Robinson, IL. He attended one year of college in Carbondale, IL, before enlisting in the Navy in 1967. He served in the Navy for 10 years, and the Navy reserve for 13 1⁄2 years, raising to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, E-8.

In September 1967, he married Sandra Kay Pine. Together they had 3 children: Evelyn Michelle Polk-Pine, Elgin Darell Polk, Jr.,”Butch”, aka Randy Jay Pine, and Christina Cassandra Polk-Pine. The marriage ended in divorce in 1988. He was then married to Sharon Ferguson, which also ended in divorce after 6 years.

After the regular Navy, Darell worked as a journeyman electrician for Georgia-Pacific wall board plant in Lovell, WY, for 17 years. He then moved to Casper, WY, where he worked as a service electrician and construction electrician. While in Casper, he met Sharon Lynn (Doss) Keener. She was in Anchorage, Alaska. They met online, on a Christian chatroom, not a dating site. After 4 months of paying $400 dollar phone bills, Darell flew to Kenai, Alaska, on December 26th. There in the airport he asked Sharon to marry him. She said,“yes”. They were married in her mother & stepdad's home, on December 31st, 1998, in Nikiski, AK. They flew back to Wyoming 2 days later. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary this last December. They lived in Casper for 17 years.

They were members of Casper First Assembly of God Church, where they both at different times served on the board. Darell for many years was also the greeter, knowing almost every person in the church. He witnessed and ministered at his local gas station, many times just stopping by for the free diet coke the employees made sure he got, and praying for the needs of the employees.

Darell & Sharon moved to Post Falls, ID, in October 2015, mostly for Sharon's health & to be closer to her mother, Marna, then living in Missoula, MT. They became members of Northwest Family Church a few years ago, usually attending at the North Campus. Meeting with several other men from church at Gross Donuts on Thursday mornings, they enjoyed their time solving the worlds problems, eating donuts and drinking coffee. Darell's favorite was the apple fritters.

Darell loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting deer, antelope & occasionally elk and moose. He also liked fishing for trout, and was able to go fishing in Alaska on a charter, where he caught his first halibut. Darell was also an avid rock-hound. He and Sharon collected a lot of rocks. They brought them home, washed the off, cut them open, the sliced them up, revealing the beauty God hid there upon creation. They shaped them, polished them, then set them in a piece of jewelry. Kind of like what God does to us: He picks us up, washes the dirt off, slices & trims off what shouldn't be there, shapes us, polishes us up to make us some beautiful and useful. Darell has a collection of belt buckles and bolo ties the made with the rocks
he found.

Darell was preceded in death by both of his parents & several Aunts & Uncles. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lynn Polk, Darell's children, Evey, (Oblong, IL) Butch, (Worland, WY) Chris (Robinson, IL). Butch's children, Taylor & Jesse Pine, his sister, Teressa Starlene Ennis, her husband, Elwood Ennis, his nephew, Tyler & his wife, Tanaé Ennis, & their daughter, Sadie, his niece, Tess & her husband,Jeff Peterson, their 2 sons, Landen & Breck. All living in Lovell, WY.. Darell's mother-in-love, Marna Konzek (Rathdrum, ID). Sharon's son, Ed Keener, (Fayetteville, AR) Ed's daughter, Natalie (Sea-Tac, WA), Sharon's daughter, Marna Noland & her husband, Justin (Garfield, AR). Marna's children, Amber Smith (Fayetteville, AR) & James Gray (Garfield, AR). Sharon's brother, Dennis Doss & his wife, Cathy (Ocean View, HI). Their children Heather Knudsen, her husband Mark, and their children, Jordan, Allie & Brooklyn (Kenai, AK). Their son, Levi Doss & his wife, Tera, their children, Patrick, Rebecca, Catherine, Sadie, Ruby, Silas & Eli (Sand Point, ID). Sharon's brother, Robert Doss & his wife, Jecel, and their daughter, Harley (Nikiski, AK). Darell loved his family & loved his in-laws & step-kids & grands, as his own.

Darell was a very Godly & friendly man. He had an infectious belly laugh, which made others laugh too. He is greatly missed. Whenever asked what he wanted for any meal, he always answered, “chocolate cake” with a big grin on his face. Bald & bearded, he loved life, family, friends, but mostly, he loved the Lord Jesus.
