Post Falls

James Robert Scarbrough: 69 years old, of Post Falls, ID entered into Glory from Kootenai Health in Coeur d’ Alene, ID, while surrounded by family. He was born July 26, 1956, in Anderson, IN to the late James and Zelma (O’Field) Scarbrough, the third of eight children. Jim was blessed to be raised in a Christian home by parents of strong Faith. The family moved to Richmond, IN when he was five years old. He attended Richmond Community Schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1974. The following Fall he enrolled at Indiana University and earned his BS, majoring in Geology and Math.

While attending IU, he met his soul mate, Peggy Lynn Collins of Kewanna, IN, over a borrowed cup of dirt. They married on May 5, 1979, at the Assembly of God church in Bloomington, IN. Together God blessed them with 4 children whom they dedicated as infants to God. In 2003, they moved their family to Post Falls, ID after feeling they were being called to the area. Jim & Peg were lovingly committed in marriage and family until her passing on June 30, 2014.

In the early days, James got his wife hooked on spelunking & mapping out caves in KY and IN. He even encouraged his mother and some siblings to go as well. Together they raised their children to love and serve our Lord God & Savior Jesus Christ. They were very involved in church in several capacities; local mission work, youth leaders, church work etc. James obtained his License as an Assembly of God Pastor. He became a Youth Pastor in Connersville, IN. He had a bold faith. Jim has always centered his life around God, family, and then his job. He worked in construction management, and the guys he worked with would refer to him as “their pastor”. He enjoyed watching his children participate in sports, school and church activities. Jim coached their little league baseball and basketball teams as well.

Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren, often reading to them, rough-housing, giving them rides in his side-by-side ATV, and always sneaking them treats. He also enjoyed watching them play baseball, hockey, and soccer. His interests included; traveling, camping, golfing, studying the Bible and other books, walks, campfires, wearing wild and crazy outfits, and being a fun-loving father and grandfather. In his younger years he would sneak cookies to the point his mother called him “Cookie Monster.” He was faithful in remembering everyone’s birthdays. He would call and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ as out-of-tune as he could. He liked to joke and would often ask “How do you sell a deaf man a duck? (yelling) WONNA BUY A DUCK?!!!!,” usually in very public places. James has always had a servant’s heart. He was generous with helping others in need or just giving an unexpected blessing! He truly enjoyed life to its fullest!

Jimmy, your family loves and misses you. But how could we be sad? You retired on Earth in July 2025 and are collecting your benefits with our Lord God almighty now!
