Judy Dewitt Walker

October 26, 1931 — June 21, 2025

Coeur d'Alene

Judy DeWitt Walker, Passed on June 21, 2025, at 93 years of age. Judy was born in Columbus, Georgia on October 26, 1931, to Mary Bellflowers. They moved to Atlanta, GA, at some point where they lived till Judy was 15 years old. Judy met her husband, Reid Walker in Atlanta while he was in an Army Training Center, learning deiseal mechanics before being sent to Japan at the end of World War II. Reid proposed to Judy just before being shipped out for Japan. She said yes, and was he ever surprised when he asked, “by the way how old are you?” She was 14 at the time. They married May 1, 1947, when he returned from Japan. Judy and her mother traveled to Coeur d’Alene, ID just before the wedding. Judy and Reid were married 70 years. They had 4 girls, Rita, Judy, Jean, and Rhonda. When all the girls were in grade school Judy went to work at Clair Pindar, a company that made keyboards and keytops. During her 20 years there, she became the lead engraver and was selected to engrave the keytops for the first space shuttle that went to the moon. Judy enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycling, 4 wheeling, camping, and all the things that went with each of those pastimes. Judy was a good shot and had the largest set of elk horns hanging in their home. She was also musical. When her girls were small, she sang on the radio station, KVNI in Coeur d’Alene as well as in church. She taught her daughter to sing, and she played several instruments starting with a ukulele, graduating to a guitar and then piano. In her later years she picked up violin, mandolin, and banjo. She bought a stand-up base but didn’t get to do much with it before deciding she had done enough. In her 50’s Judy went on a 30-day mission trip to Prague with her oldest daughter Rita. Years later when her husband became ill and had to live in a facility she moved in with her daughter Judy. When Reid passed, she stayed in close contact with her sisters-in-law and began working on filling her bucket list. Judy traveled to Maui and Oahu, where she looked for her father’s name with the many who were lost at Pear Harbor. She also went on a Caribbean Cruise, Family Reunion with all her Southern Family from Georgia. While planning a trip to Rome she sat down at the dinner table one night and said I’m done traveling. I’m not going to Rome or anywhere else. I just want to be here, Judy enjoyed the symphony, fine dining along and live plays, one day road trips, and movies. In June of 2023 Judy had a change in health and moved into assisted living in September that year. She quickly became acquainted with the staff and residents at Legends Park, which is why we are here today, for her celebration. Judy has always been an avid gamer, and at Legends she never wanted to miss out on Bingo, Poker, Help your Neighbor or any other game or event.

Judy is preceded in death by her mother Mary, daughter Jean and husband Reid. She has left many wonderful memories for her daughters, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was important to her as you will see inside the folded paper you received today. Those are her words, please take them to heart.

Family is the only thing that matters. The lesson is anything you want to say, say it, anything you want to do, do it before it’s too late.
