In Memory of Our Adored Mother
Kala Geree Faler (Ross)
Sunrise: May 8, 1958 – Sunset: June 21, 2025
On June 21st, surrounded by the care of those she loved and close to her. Our beautiful mother
peacefully transitioned from this world after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. Even
in her final days, her strength, her grace, and immeasurable love remained steadfast, just as these parts
of her always had throughout her life.
She was the embodiment of selflessness. A warrior whose life was defined not by what she endured, but
by what she gave. She gave comfort, laughter, strength, and warmth, freely and abundantly. She believed
that you know who you are, and you should love who you love. She knew that it is each of our uniqueness
and culture that make a person, and those things should be celebrated. She fought for equality for
underrepresented communities, and hoped for a future where everyone did what she did; simply care for
each other.
She was a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a cousin, and a friend. Most of all, she embodied what many
would recognize as home.
She was happiest in Charleston, South Carolina, where her spirit felt most alive. The soft southern
breezes, the salt in the air, the charm of the old streets held her heart. When not there, she found she was
herself most near rivers, streams, or oceans. It didn’t matter, as long as the water moved. She understood
that life, like water, ebbs and flows. Whenever it rains, go outside and tilt your head up, for it is her giving
you little water kisses.
She is survived by her devoted twin daughters, KayCee and Keyra, who carry forward her strength and
love. She leaves behind her treasured granddaughter and grandson Jaxyn and Odin, whose lives will
forever be blessed by her legacy. She also leaves behind many family members and dear friends who
were touched by her kindness, generosity, and light.
Though we are heartbroken, we are grateful. Grateful for every moment, every lesson, every hug, every
shared smile. If you knew Kala, you knew the next adventure came from a good book, and just like the
stories she read, her story does not end here. It lives on in us. In how we love, in how we care, in how we
show up, and how we rise for us and others.
Scientifically we know that once energy is created, it cannot be destroyed, so while we cant see her, she
is here, just a bit less orderly. Let us honor her by living lives filled with compassion, laughter, bravery, and
grace. When we find ourselves near water, may we pause, breathe, and feel her presence, because she
is not gone. She is just beyond the bend, flowing onward.
Rest gently, wondrous soul. You are our best friend, deeply missed, and forever cherished.
Love your daughters,
K & K
