Terry Lee Arbaugh, affectionately known as Papa T, passed away at his residence in Rathdrum, Idaho, on Monday, February 23, 2026. He was 78 years old.
Born on April 25, 1947, in San Diego, California, to James Lee Arbaugh and Shirley Ann Arbaugh (née Gere), Terry grew up in San Diego, where he graduated from high school. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam era, from June 27, 1967, to June 26, 1973.
Terry was a dedicated entrepreneur, self-employed for many years in pool construction and resurfacing. After retiring, he embraced the role of full-time Grandpa, explorer, and friend, always ready for the next adventure.
A true kid at heart, Terry lived with boundless kindness, optimism, and joy. He had a deep love for fishing, boating, animals, reading, road trips, a good poker night, and starting each day with the morning newspaper (delivered faithfully by his beloved Lab, Gus). He cherished travel, discovering new places, and spending time with family and friends. One of the kindest people anyone could know, he was always happy, approachable, and up for anything.
Terry spent his final years living in his “Grandpa Flat” with his daughter Jodi Magoffin, son-in-law Garrett Magoffin, and his cherished grandchildren: Jeremiah, Benjamin, and Savannah.
He is survived by: Daughters: Jodi Magoffin and Son-in-Law: Garrett Magoffin; Alena Clark; Grandchildren: Jeremiah, Benjamin, and Savannah; Sisters: Marty Ketelsen (Tahoe, CA) and Jan Guffey (San Diego, CA); Brothers-in-Law: Bueno Ketelsen (Tahoe, CA) and Bill Guffey (San Diego, CA); Nieces, nephews, and their children and dear friends: Steve, Mark, Larry, Alan, Dale, Jim, and Karen, he always loved
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Danny, brother Rodney, and a few of his closest friends.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared by the family. The family suggests remembering him by enjoying a day on the water, sharing a good book, or simply being kind to those around you, just as he always was.
Papa T will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warm heart, adventurous spirit, and endless love.
